A baby shower can be a wonderful experience for an expecting mother, but it can also be exhausting.
Then there’s the issue of returning gifts, which can be a whole other can of worms many women are afraid to open.
If you’re starting to feel lost here’s a brief guide on baby shower etiquette for expecting mothers.
Gift Registration
Gift registration can be a difficult situation. First of all, you really need to consider what you actually need for the baby, which can help cut down the need to return gifts.
You also want to register for gifts in a variety of price ranges and not go overboard. In most cases, people won’t be able to afford extremely expensive gifts.
However, coworkers or friends may go in together to purchase a moderately pricey gift, such as a stroller or car seat. Another important part of registering for gifts is to register with at least one online store.
If you have friends or family that live far away, they may not be able to visit some of the stores you chose. However, online stores can be used by everyone, everywhere.
Returning Gifts
This is a tricky subject, but there will be some gifts that don’t work out for whatever reason. For example, you may receive items that you think you’ll never use. In this case, it may pay off to hold on to the item, especially if you’re a first time mother.
In this case, a friend, loved one or another mother may know something you don’t. Of course, there will also be times when you receive gifts that don’t work for your nursery or items that are duplicates.
In cases like these, you should return the items for things you like or for other supplies you may need. Remember that you don’t have to tell the person that you returned the gift because this can obviously hurt their feelings.
Best of all, many stores accept returns without a receipt, but you may have to settle for an exchange or a store gift card.
Sending Thank You Cards
Depending on when you have the baby shower during your pregnancy, you may be too tired to send out thank you cards right away.
However, you shouldn’t wait too long. Soon your baby will arrive and you’ll be way too busy to even think about sending thank you cards. It’s best to send thank you cards out within a week after the baby shower.
Baby showers can be tricky, but if you follow these tips, you’ll have a much easier time registering for gifts and returning those that don’t work out for you and your child. You should also remember to send out those thank you cards in a timely manner.
Please feel free to comment on the above if you have any opinions or ideas to express. We always want to hear from you. Thank you and take care.
