Often times, it might be difficult deciding on your baby shower guest list and who should go on it. Traditionally, you should have a family member or close friend host your baby shower.
You should also include her in your guest list preparation. So that begs the question again, “who should you invite?”
In this article we’re going to try to explain and answer this question to the best of our ability.
Some might say “just invite the people that matter most to you” or others might say “if you’re having a casual baby shower or coed baby shower then invite as many people as you want”.
Baby showers – Who and why?
Honestly speaking, both points of view are right in one degree or another. It all depends on the situation that you’re in and the kind or type of baby shower you’re throwing.
If you’re having a traditional baby shower for example, then you must set up a baby registry so that your guests can bring presents without anybody bringing repeat gifts.
This of course makes the entire invitation process just a little bit more difficult because you need all of your guests to RSVP. This means you are counting on them on coming and bringing a gift.
This also means that you should be very selective on who you invite because in a sense, you are depending on them.
On the other hand, if you’re throwing a coed baby shower or a more casual baby shower, where you’ve got a barbecue burning in the background and your decorations are down to a minimum then you might want to invite as many people as possible.
Just ask your guests to bring diapers, wet napkins, bottles and other disposable baby goods.
This allows you the baby shower host or the expecting mother to put less responsibility on your guests and more flexibility on your guest list.
I want my cake and eat it too!
I understand however, if you want the best of both worlds! Perhaps you want the flexibility of an open guest list at the same time creating an undeniable baby shower feel to your party.
If this is your situation then I highly recommend throwing a gender reveal party. A gender reveal party is like a coed party but there is an undeniable baby shower tension in the room brought upon by the mystery of your baby’s gender!
All of your guest will enjoy the casual atmosphere that your coed baby shower has but towards the end of the event they will gather around you and a cake that is decorated with neutral colors.
Then you will slowly cut into the cake, if the cake is blue then you’re having a boy but if the cake is pink then your having a girl. Everyone’s excited and everyone is overjoyed; all at once! That’s how you have the best of both worlds.
