Making a baby shower for a pregnant coworker can be a bit tricky. If you would love to surprise a colleague with a party to celebrate the new baby’s coming, what do you need to know?
When you have a pregnant coworker, she will definitely appreciate the great gesture of organizing a baby shower for her!
But of course the best thing you can do is treat her with compassion and pamper her while she is working and struggling with pregnancy signs and symptoms all at the same time.
Pregnancy fatigue can make working quite stressful, so taking over some of her tasks when she is really feeling rough is something she will remember for a long time to come.
Your Coworker Will Love You Create
Perhaps it is best to throw your colleague’s baby shower just before she goes off on maternity leave. Because your coworker is probably going to have a shower with her friends and family as well, it is a great idea to try to find out if there are any baby items she is still in need of first.
If you would like to give the pregnant mom a big ticket item like a vibrating swing for the baby, you can join resources with all your immediate colleagues and give a joint present. Other great gifts ideas are take-out meal vouchers or the offer to take your coworker groceries after the baby is born!
A work baby shower can of course be organized in the office or your place of work. It can even be a lunch-hour party – I think balloons and a cake waiting as a surprise when your coworker is about to grab a sandwich is a lovely idea. It is a wonderful way to send your coworker off to her maternity leave!
Make sure to include silly games that encourage workplace bonding. You can subject your pregnant coworker to a silly list of questions such as “What is your silliest craving?”, “Did you use an ovulation calendar?”, and “What is your most comfortable sleeping position now?” and play games.
You could make a bet to predict the baby’s birth date, and the winning colleague gets a small prize after the baby is born. Or you could forbid the mention of the word “baby” and pin diaper pins onto anyone who says it anyway. The losing participant has to sing a lullaby at the end.
Office baby showers should be lighthearted fun to celebrate your colleague’s impending motherhood together with her, but depending on the general atmosphere at your place at work, questions about whether your coworker will return to work after the baby gets there are probably not appropriate.
