I know it’s hard to believe but coed baby showers are becoming more and more popular.
In this post we will go over several coed ideas and how you can implement them to make your party a great one!
This kind of baby shower is quickly becoming one of my favorites because both genders bring in all whole new dynamic to the baby shower experience.
Gone are the days when baby showers were exclusively for women. No longer are men excluded from these parties and in this post you’ll get some great ideas to make your baby shower awesome:
Baby shower ideas – Less is More
As many of you know, color palettes are very important when organizing a shower. Traditionally, baby shower color palettes are pastel in nature.
Pastel colors set the tone for how things will look and feel but in a coed baby shower you are going to look for “cleaner” colors such as blues, greens, whites and lighter browns.
When hosting a coed baby shower you want to avoid over-complicated themes and/or games unless you’re familiar with the male guests that will be attending the party.
Stick to a neutral theme with one of the color palettes mentioned above and focus on the game aspect of your baby shower and don’t worry so much about decorations.
At the same time however, a few decorations wouldn’t hurt. Balloons and paper lanterns are always a good way to decorate a coed baby shower.
Here are some excellent games that both men and women can enjoy:
If you want to focus your baby shower on a theme then focus it on a simple theme. Here are some coed baby shower ideas and themes you can use:
Coed Centerpieces
If you’re going to host a neutral baby shower then I recommend one of two centerpieces:
- Use your food as your centerpiece – that’s right, treat your baby shower like a regular party and use the food that you will be offering as your centerpiece.
- Rubber ducky centerpiece – this one is easy and it looks great, simply fill your baby bath with 2/3rds of water and drop in as many rubber duckies as you want to create a simple yet stunning centerpiece.
Food and Drink
This aspect of the baby shower is a little bit controversial. Many of the coed baby showers that I have been to offered alcohol to their guests.
It’s up to you if you want to provide alcohol at your baby shower but remember traditionally, no alcohol is ever served.
If you do serve alcohol please make sure that it is properly designated and that the mom-to-be doesn’t have any.
As for the food, a simple rule of thumb is to put less emphasis on sweets and more emphasis on the finger foods that you will be serving.
Meat is also a very important food that you will need at your baby shower. There is nothing wrong with a BBQ going on outside at the same time the shower is taking place.
Final thoughts….
I think it’s great to involve men into baby showers. The mom-to-be needs all the support she can get so why not invite your brothers, your fathers and other male guests.
A good rule of thumb is to treat it like you would a semi formal party:
- Use a clean color palette
- Use a neutral theme or a simple theme
- Focus on the games and activities
Remember that if you want to keep your baby shower traditional then don’t serve alcohol.
At the same time however, you should know that serving alcohol at a coed shower is not frowned upon. Just make sure that the mom-to-be doesn’t drink any of the alcoholic fruit punch.
Please feel free to share your baby shower ideas with the rest of us. If you have experience hosting and/or planning a coed baby shower leave your ideas and thoughts in the comments section below.
