Hey there sailors! So you’ve been looking all around for a guide to plan a nautical themed baby shower? Forward to aft? Starboard to port? Look no more, I give you the ultimate guide to create the perfect nautical baby shower for boys.
Now that you’ve settled for a nautical baby shower theme, you can start thinking about the party itself, decoration, food, invitations, games and everything inbetween.
Since the beginning of time, man has had a significant relationship with the sea. It provides food and was, and still is, one of the main means of commerce. He who controlled the sea, controlled the people. For many years sea salt was used as currency and it was considered a luxury commodity.

Over the years, the love of the sea has remained and it has created a beautiful culture around it and today it shows up once again in this baby shower theme.
All best the Printables in the 7 Seas
To get you started in the right direction I’ve prepared this awesome nautical baby shower printable kit. The kit includes:
Banner– Perfect to decorate the main table or as a welcoming message for your guests, the adorable banner reads “It’s a boy” but also comes with one free space. You can print this space numerous times and create smaller banners to decorate other spaces.
To hang the banner, all you need to do is cut out following the dotted lines and hang the banner pieces from a piece of string using clothespins or some tape.
Baby Shower Bingo– This game is a classic for a reason. Gather your guests and have them fill out the bingo card with different things they think the expectant mom is going to do or say during the shower. Once a guest gets 5 in a row the game is over. I’m sure all your guests will enjoy playing this awesome game! This is a game that can last the whole shower and fill it with tons of fun.
Labels/Toppers – These simple, cute and extremely useful labels will bring the whole decoration together. Print them, cut them out and label all your your food and drinks or use them as nametags for guests.
Invitations – Designed to be printed on 4R cardstock paper, the nautical baby shower invitations are perfect for you. PRO TIP: Be sure to mail them out at least four weeks in advance to ensure time for the RSVPs. I’ve prepared a short video to show you how you can edit them yourself.
Amazing Food and Decorations
The food and the decorations for a baby shower go hand in hand as in most occasions well prepared and garnished food can bring the shower from good to amazing. I’ll share some ideas with you today.
It’s all about ‘em cupcakes
There’s no denying cupcakes are delicious, everyone just loves the sweet treats. The amazing thing about cupcakes is that they are extremely versatile, you can color the frosting and add some sprinkles and you’ve got yourself something to be proud of.
For this baby shower you can use some blue frosting to represent the ocean waves. You can even get some fish shaped sprinkles to go on top. You can find them here.
Lifesavers, lifesavers everywhere
Nothing screams nautical more than lifesavers. No, I’m not talking about the candy I’ll talk about that a bit later.
You can make lifesavers yourself by painting some styrofoam crowns with the traditional colors. If you want to go all the way, you can get some rope and decorate the crown with it.
Great Favors to be Remembered By
If you want to give out favors to your guests make little baggies filled with lifesaver mints. All you’ll need is clear bags and some lifesavers. To make the favors extra special, you can use the labels in the printable kit and write a personal message on each and later staple or attach in any other manner the lifesavers to the card.
NOTE: Thanks to The Clutch Guide for the amazing idea.
Games to keep the sailors entertained
Apart from the bingo game included, you can also make your own games with little to no preparation. Here are some you can choose from.
Knot tying contest
Have your guests gather around and try to make some nautical knots. Get some rope from your local craft store and make sure to hand out pieces long enough to make each knot.

Deep Ocean Game
Did you know that the average person can hold his breath for 30 seconds? How about you put it to the test.
Have all the guests hold their breath and compete against each other to see who can go the longest without breathing. The expectant mom can be the judge for this game as she shouldn’t participate. The lack of continuous oxygen may harm the baby and we don’t want that.
The guests can compete in one big group or in many different stages. You can time each stage using your smartphone and the winner gets a prize!
Many expressions we use today were originally used at sea. Phrases like “to have a square meal” or “to stand by” have their origins in the marine world.
Have your guests guess the meanings of several nautical slang phrases. The person who guesses the most wins!
Here you’ll find a list some nautical terms you can use.
So there you have it
