Are you looking for an original baby shower theme that has not been overly repeated yet at the same time, able to entertain and “WOW” your guests?
How about a book theme?
In this post we are going to cover how to create a great themed baby shower.
Why you ask?
Reading to children is one of the best and surest ways of helping them excel for life by providing a solid academic foundation while at the same time helping build loving attachments with their caregivers.
Yet, despite this, books are perhaps one of the most overlooked gifts at a baby shower. A really wonderful book can be enjoyed long after baby has outgrown the onsies and pacifier.
Perhaps it will even be cherished and saved to be passed on to the next generation someday. So how can you incorporate books into your baby shower plan?
Book Theme Guide
Here are some of the great ideas you can incorporate into your baby shower. These baby shower book theme ideas are to sure to be a big hit with your guests!
1) Theme inspired baby shower games.
“Once upon a _________.” Use famous or favorite lines from children’s stories to create a fill in the blank game.
Guess the title. Using images showing a part or all of an illustration from a children’s book, have guests guess the title. You can use classic stories, best sellers, or just your personal favorites.
Kids book trivia. Find unique and surprising facts about kids books and authors and see who can guess the right answers.
For some interactive fun, pick a children’s book and have guests volunteer to read it in their funniest voice. See who can keep from laughing the longest.
When prize time comes around, one beloved children’s book for the new baby and perhaps a fun novel for the winner.
2) Bake a book cake.
Not only can you use books to play games, but they make a wonderful theme for a baby shower cake. And since books and cakes are generally the same shape, it can be a great option for the amateur decorator to make themselves.
Bake a simple sheet cake, frost, and depending on your skill level, copy the cover of a children’s book or simply write the title, or even “Once upon a time, a baby was born.”
3) Unique gift basket for this theme.
Children’s books make a great gift, and thanks to their colorful covers they look almost as beautiful as flowers in an arrangement. Choose a variety of books.
Some that are board books for infants, and then progressing up to picture books for older children, and perhaps even a classic that can be a read-a-loud as the child gets older. This is a gift that will keep on giving for years and years.
Arrange in a basket filled with tulle, and wrap some colorful ribbon around the whole thing for a gift that will get lots of oohs and aahs at the baby shower.
4) Children’s book inspired decorations.
Create a banner that says “once upon a time”, use the front cover of a children’s book as the guest book, or make place cards that look like little books.
Or, for even more fun, choose a story that you really love and copy its colors and characters for decoration inspiration. The sky is the limit.
5) Themed styled invitations.
Don’t forget about making book themed invitations. Buy a blank card, and use stamps or stickers to decorate with a baby theme. Make the title of the book “A New Baby.” Make the author and illustrator the parents of the child. On the inside of the card write:
“Once upon a time there was a king and queen who were expecting a new baby. To celebrate they held a celebration at ______________.” Fill in the blank with all the details, and get creative if you want to tell more of the story.
A child is never to young to benefit from story time – I read to my babies on the day of their birth. And it is one thing they will never outgrow. Help encourage a love for reading by starting with the baby shower!
Thanks Vicky!
