In this post we will answer a question we’ve seen around many baby shower forums and other websites.
The question is “how many games should we play?”
This is a bit of a tricky situation. For one thing, you don’t want to play too many games that will keep your guests from enjoying other aspects of the baby shower but on the other hand, you don’t want to bore your guests with a lack of activities and games.
There are several things you need to consider when deciding on the number of activities you should have at a baby shower. We will attempt to give you the best possible answer.
Number of Games at Your Baby Shower
Your average baby shower will last between two to five hours. Most people will tell you three to four games is the norm and that is generally the “correct answer” but is that correct for you?
You will need to do a little planning first. Ask yourself how many people will come to the baby shower? The more people that are attending the less games you should play, because games with many people participating take longer.
Don’t forget about the other aspects of the baby shower, particularly eating and socializing.
Allow more time for eating and mingling than you would for baby shower games. If your serving hors’dourves or if food is not a major part of your baby shower then you can invest more time into your games and activities.
Remember to allow time before and after each game to explain the rules and to hand out prizes.
More details to consider…
We’ve pointed out the important items to consider but here are a few more curve balls that you should think about:
- Physical games like Diaper Bowling take longer than quiz games such as Baby Shower Family Feud.
- Your theme should lessen the amount of games you play because each game should match your theme.
- Know thy guests, try to accommodate the audience you will be hosting to. Are they the physical type? The quiz type? or maybe they don’t like games at all.
- Don’t forget to accommodate children and the elderly.
Its all in the planning!
It is easy to determine how many games you should play, just follow the tips and advice in this post.
Like we mentioned before, you need to plan the number of games around:
- Your theme.
- The number of guests you will entertain.
- The duration of the shower.
- The types of games you have in mind.
- Etc…
It doesn’t hurt to ask people you know who have baby shower hosting experience what worked for them.
