How long should a baby shower last?

It is difficult to gauge how long a baby shower should last.

The typical answer from the experts is 2 to 3 hours but there are several things that you should take into account when deciding how long your baby shower will be.

Should it last for a long time?

It all depends. In this post we will list several factors that you should take into consideration when planning the length of time that your shower will last.

Short-term guests VS long-term guest

You should plan ahead for this. Some of your guests will just drop by, leave a present, wish you the best, and go on their merry way.

Most of your guests will stay and participate in the complete baby shower party and gathering.

Try to find out before hand how long each guest will stay for, so that you can plan and schedule your games, activities and food preparation in advance.

Games and activities

You have to schedule all of your activities and games in accordance to your baby shower theme and the number of activities you will be doing.

There is no general rule on how many activities and games you can do because most baby shower games are short in nature.

Your baby shower games and activities should last for about 30 to 45 minutes.

Food and drink

No baby shower is complete without providing your guests with food and drink. Many baby shower hosts opt for finger foods, sweets, tea, fruit punch, cake and/or coffee.

The food and drink part of your baby shower should last for 45 minutes to an hour.

Location

Location only becomes a scheduling variable if you’re renting out your baby shower venue.

For obvious reasons you should let your guests know before hand the details about where the baby shower venue is located and how long it will last for.

If you’re having your baby shower at a park or in your home then you can extend or shorten your baby shower depending on the situation.

Time is up

Like I mentioned at the beginning of this article, your typical baby shower will last for 2 to 3 hours but it is really up to you and the type of shower you will create.

This shouldn’t be a big issue as long as you plan ahead and take into account the different aspects that will affect the amount of time you need for your baby shower.
